Benson Debut
Belgian midfielder, Manuel Benson, settling in quickly to life at Turf Moor following his first game playing for the Clarets against Luton.
The Belgian’s excitement at being a Burnley FC player was only enhanced by his debut in Saturday’s 1–1 draw with Luton Town. The Belgian midfielder, who had joined the Club less than 48 hours prior, came on as a half time substitute at Turf Moor.
He enjoyed a 45-minute cameo as the Clarets came from behind to earn a point through Josh Brownhill’s strike at the 51st minute of the match against the Hatters.
Benson spoke to the Club’s media after the game, speaking about his bow in a Burnley shirt, how the Clarets fans have taken to him and looking forward to the season ahead and that he had some exciting chances to score, that he will surely seize in the following games.
“You can say that but I also think that I had some chances to score, and I’m a little bit sad about that but overall, we still have a point so I can be happy.
“We went 1–0 down early on and knew it was going to be tough. When you see the response of the team for the rest of the first half, it was great.
“We felt there was something more in the game [than the draw] and we just needed to get over them. At the end, we didn’t get it, but we need to take the positives from the game and continue.”
Benson on the atmosphere at Turf Moor, the Clarets stadium:
“I still have goosebumps talking about it. When I came out, it was unbelievable. I hadn’t even played a minute and they were already applauding me.
“It just gives me more confidence and I just wanted to give something back to them which is why I’m a little bit gutted about the misses. I hope this atmosphere can stay the same all season and that I can do great things.”
“I’m really positive it’s going to come, and that everything’s going to come, because everyone around here has been very welcoming to me. They’ve explained everything really well and I know everything is going to be absolutely fine.”
Benson commented on the rest of the campaign:
“I’m very excited. The atmospheres and the level of player [in the Sky Bet Championship] are great. I can’t wait to play more games, more minutes and get even more experience. It’s an exciting time.
“I hope to keep improving all season. I just need to do my job and I think the fans will enjoy the whole team if we keep performing at the same level as we have done in the last two games.”
